Change 101: Your Thoughts Create Your Reality

Every child should be taught one basic thing that will determine, to a large extent, his or her future. It seems so basic, it is almost mystical. To be honest, some people actually have a hard time believing it- but it is true that

Our thoughts create our reality.

How does this work? Some people believe that thoughts are energy that send out energetic vibrations and work to attract similar energy patterns. In this view, we bring whatever we think about into our lives. Whether it is good or bad, negative or positive, we get what we think about.

There is another theory which suggests that our thoughts determine our behavior and our behavior, in turn, determines our experiences and achievement. In other words, if we believe in ourselves and our ability to reach our goals, we are more likely to take those risks that can lead us to success.

The theory itself really does not matter as long as you understand that your thoughts determine your reality.
Let me illustrate this with a personal story. A few years back, I bought a shiny used beautiful Ford Escort. I was pretty excited about it as it was 11 years old, had only 40,000 miles on it and looked like it rarely saw the light of day. My husband, though, wasn't too hip on the safety record of this car and constantly worried that I'd be in an accident. In fact, he was so worried about it he drove it most of the time and asked me to drive a new car with airbags so I would"be safe". If we had to go somewhere in this particular car, my husband never let me drive it because he fretted about me getting into an accident.

Now, I bet you can guess what happened next. About a year after buying the car, my husband and I were in a major accident in the Escort. In the emergency room, my husband remarked "I was so worried that you would be in an accident, I thought about it every day. "

The lesson I learned from that experience is never let anyone who is more pessimistic than you take the wheel. You are better off dictating your own direction down your favorite path.
In fact, how many of us spend time with pessimists? We let them infiltrate our minds with their reasons why our dreams will never become reality: they lead us to believe that we are doomed to fail and will never succeed so we should not even put forth the effort to try.

I'm telling you that you can change your life in less than 15 minutes per day. I challenge you to dream big and follow it up with steady and consistent action. It does not take much to change your life and live your life the way you were meant to live. We are all unique beings, with unique potential. Do not believe for a second that anyone was made to hold themselves back so they could fit in with the sedentary crowd. Remember

you are an anomaly; a wonderful, beautiful, unique human being.
